52nd Annual Honoring Dinner “An Evening of Hope”

  • Four Seasons Hotel Austin Austin, Texas

Sometimes the light we shine on mental illness becomes a spotlight. Each year Mental Health America of Texas pays tribute to an individual who has devoted much of their time and energy to promote mental health.  At this year’s Honoring Dinner: An Evening of Hope, we presented the Mary Elizabeth Holdsworth Butt Award for Mental Health to Tom Luce, CEO of The Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute. More than 200 guests attended the 52nd annual event with honored guests Representative Joe Straus and Senator Judith Zaffirini presenting awards. The Texas Impact Award was given to Glenda and Jerry Kane, accomplished health and mental health advocates.  And guest speaker, author Elizabeth Crook, spoke about her grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Holdsworth Butt, a longtime mental health advocate who is the namesake for the award. Senator Zaffirini also gave a heartfelt tribute to long-time friend and mental health advocate Jess Hay who served a vital role in championing mental health throughout Texas.

Special thanks goes to H-E-B and Charles Butt, our other sponsors and host committee and guests whose generous support raised over $150,000 to support the work of MHA Texas, including advocacy, substance abuse prevention, suicide prevention, parent training for healthy children and access to mental health care.
